Farmer Song Fest is a musical celebration of change for survival in the agricultural community. In 2006, Joe Hynek and Angie Hynek completed their script for their new musical "Farmer Song" inspired by their experience farming in Ellston, IA through the 1980's Farm Crisis and the technology shift in the 1990's. The story tells how a young couple struggles to keep their land. It is a story shared by many during these tough times. The musical has won 2nd Place in the National Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Musical Theater Playwrighting Contest and has earned a Stewart Humanities Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. It has been performed at the Iowa State Fair, Ames, IA, and Radcliffe, IA.

The Hynek Family Farm in Ellston, IA today has diversified from traditional crops of corn, beans, cattle, and hogs to a tree farm and trucking business. The family also performs around the midwest in the band called Pumptown.

We've survived and we're ready to celebrate. Please join us for Farmer Song Fest so that we can continue to produce and grow this one of a kind music celebration in Southern Iowa.
